• For inspiration I used 'Vogue' Magazine. This inspired me to use three main colours on the front cover and the contents page. I think my mast head is in the right place however it could be a little bigger. 
• I used the same font on the contents page and the front cover to make it more consistant. I felt having an image from mid-waist was good because most professional magazines have thier models like that, very few have a full body shot of the model.
• The audience for this product is 16 - 18 year old males and females studying their A Levels at QE. I used a student for the cover so the audience could relate more to the magazine. Most 16 - 18 year olds have roughly the same interests so for my sell lines, I wrote about the general things most 16 - 18 year olds like.
• During the process of constructing this product, I used lots of different softwares like Adobe Photoshop which I used for my front cover. I also used a SLR camera when taking the picture of my model. We used a flash kit for lighting in the photo however when professionals take photographs, they use a white backdrop whereas we used a black back drop. 
• All of this work was done on Apple Mac Computers.

Cover

For my front cover I have decided to use three colours, purple, yellow and black. I chose these colours because those are the main colours for the school and these colours are normally neutral colours and appeal to both genders. This magazine is mostly targeted at 16 - 18 year olds so I thought the mast head should be called 'Varsity Years' because this is what a majority of the audience are aiming for, university, when they will enter thier 'Varsity Years'. I will use the Varsity Font for the mast head to go with the title. I have positioned my sell lines in this way to make them clearer for the reader, that way they can read them all without difficulty and also it makes them stand out more if they are not surrounding the image. With the image and the sell lines separated it's easier for both to be seen clearer whereas if the sell lines were surrounding the image, they could easily overshadow the image or vice versa. The main sell line has the biggest writing to attract the reader and it is also in the most eye catching colour. The rest of the sell lines are slightly smaller than the main sell line to make it stand out more. I have a banner advertising cheap school supplies and sports equipment which should appeal to the male and female target audience because everyone will need school supplies. The sell lines advertise various things that again apply to both genders and also the target ages of the audience. 

Contents Page

The colour scheme for the contents page is the same as the colours for the cover. This is to show that the magazine has a theme to it. The main title for the contents page will use the same font as the mast head on the cover page. This is also to show the consistant theme throughout the magazine. I have used little images around the page that relate to various articles. These are to grab the audience to want to know more about the article so they find the page and read it.

Inspirational Texts

 

I like how they have used 3 basic colours, pink, black, and white, for the cover. Also the fact that the main sell line has an exclamation mark at the end of it which just makes it more eye catching for the reader. Also the image in this is from the waist upwards which is what most magazines use.

This cover follows the three colour rule that most magazines use. It only uses red, black and white. Also I like that the colours are used in the sell lines to make them stand out more and to attract the readers attention. This cover doesn't have a sky line but it does have a small banner on the start of the mast head. 

   I like this contents page because it uses the same three colours that are used on the front cover, red, black and white. Also because it has one big image that is really eye catching and it draws your attention to it. It also has a little image at the bottom of the page in the subscribe section that appeals to readers to go subscribe to the magazine. The contents page also relates to the front cover because it tells the reader where to find the front cover images.

I like this contents page because it has more than one image on it. The different images relate to the different articles in the magazine which makes people want to read the articles to find out what the image is about. This magazine also relates back to the front cover because it talks about the articles that are on the sell lines on the cover.

Brief; Print

Preliminary exercise: using DTP and an image manipulation program, produce the front page of a new school/college magazine, featuring a photograph of a student in medium close-up plus some appropriately laid-out text and a masthead. Additionally you must produce a mock-up layout of the contents page to demonstrate your grasp of DTP.


Main task the front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine.
A minimum if 4 images must be used. All images and graphics must be produced by the candidate.
